16 – Savonarola: The Mad Monk of Florence

Girolamo_Savonarola We will discuss Savonarola, the “Mad Monk” of Florence. The man who would help to hasten the end of Florence’s Golden Age and turn Florence into a theocratic regime that was ironically  both its most autocratic and most democratic phase in history. He would influence artists like Botticelli and Michelangelo with his fiery sermons as well as thousands of Florentines who would follow him.
